440-source cam - Any experience? - 09/06/08 05:41 PM

Anybody ever use one of these cams? Are they a copy of another grind? I have been mapping out a 451 build, and have been leaning towards a Comp Cams XE285HL (241*/248* & .545 on 110cl) How about the similar large 440-source cam (242*/252* & .520/.550 on 109cl)

This will be in a 10:1 451. Thoughts?

No exp. with the 440Source cam... But when i built my 451 last year, 10.25:1 motor, I spec'd the cam out through Scott @ Straightline, and he came back with a cam of 235, intake, and 242, exhaust @ .050 110LSA 106 ICL in front of a 3000 stall converter. When I went to order the cam things at straightline were up in the air, as Scott was working for someone else. Think he's back selling parts again.

Went with the 60304 Voodoo, very similar cam to Scott's specs. I wanted to run a bigger cam but in a B-body he felt it would be a better package with a little smaller cam Hope to have the car back together this winter.

I would get it touch with Fast68plymouth or Tim Goolsby at Bullet racing cams. It's so easy a cave man can do it!LOL Good luck with whatever you do.

Old Thorley's I got from Peelerboy here... #6 is a bit tight on the plug, not bad, but could be better. Think the newer Thorley's have better clearance

My plan with the XE285HL was to run it with Rhodes V-max lifters. Basically, under 3000 RPM, it will act about like a 280 cam. I know Rhodes lifters will gather mixed reviews, but I have a set in my 383 right now, and really like what they did for it, so I'm going to figure them into my next motor.

I ran Rhodes lifters years ago, maybe 25+ they do the job, but are noisy

I'd use them again in the correct application! Good luck with your build

Are performance cars suppossed to be quiet?

Music to my ears even in a New Yorker!
