Stalls when put in gear.

My 92 Dakota with a magnum V-8 has the OD tranny in it. Starts great but stalls when put in gear. Almost like dumping a clutch on a manual. Do these have a lock up torque converter? What should I be looking at?

I had an '81 mirada that i bought to use for the disc brakes on my wagon.
It did the same thing. It was a bad lockup converter or solenoid. I didn't really care as i just used it for the brake parts.
I'd look into the lockup issue first.
