Walker muffler VS Accurate Exhaust

I have a 1973 challenger and I am looking for a stock sounding exhaust in duals. Do you think Walker mufflers will sound as good a Accurate Exhaust because Walker is a lot less money. Walker has a muffler that will fit beside the gas tank but it says it is very a 318 single exhaust. Do you think it would sound good with duals. Thanks for your help.

Walker makes a nice muffler. When I worked at an Exhaust Pros shop, we used Walker mufflers. The round muffler walker makes look very close to the origonal style. It will sould just fine. If you end up going that route, let me know what part #'s you used for the muffler and resonator. The shop where I worked doesn't exist any more. It's too bad because my boss was great at dual exhaust jobs and he was cheap.

The only problem I can see is that the mufflers from Accurate come with a bracket welded onto the back so you can use the factory style hanger. You'd have to find an origonal bracket to weld to your replacement in order to use the factory setup.

If you want a slightly more agressive sound, walker also makes an all welded(not crimped) turbo muffler that is close to the size of the factory muffler and resonator.

Do you think it will sound good without resonators and just the walker muffler because on a 318 it does not call for a resonator with these mufflers.

Walker mufflers are just a generic stock replacement muffler designed to fit many applications. If you brought a 340 car into a shop, they would put those same mufflers on. It doesn't matter what engine the car has as long as the muffler fits where the factory one was.

On my 318 Challenger, I'm adding dual exhaust. I'm going to have it look like the factory 340 system so I'm going with resonators too. I think the 318 dual exhaust systems from Accurate are just the 340 system with different head pipes to connect to the 318 manifolds.

The Walker mufflers will sound fine. If you don't want to run resonators, you may get some droning under part throttle cruise. That's all the resonators are designed to eliminate.

If a 318 would have been offered with dual exhaust, the factory would have used resonators. The only reason they didn't is because the single exhaust muffled the sound enough already.
