1970 GTX - 11/04/10 08:10 PM

How rare is a 70 GTX 440 auto with a bench seat? Most of the ones I see have bucket seats.

How about, 1 of none.

No factory bench seats in any 70 GTX. Buckets with buddy seat/fold down armrest is a definite possibility, but no bench seat GTX's.

70 GTX was available with a front bench with fold down center arm rest as well as bucket seats. I am not sure what % of them got the front bench. I have seen 3 or 4 of them at the major shows over the years. The interior is actually quite unique with a pattern cloth insert on the seats.

It is a bench seat. seat looks just like the green one above that coronet rt has a pic of, but this one I am looking at is blue. I was told it is rare to see a 70 gtx with a bench seat.

It might be "rare" or "unusual", but not value added IMO.

Yep, back in the day, someone spent $501 more dollars to get a GTX over a Road Runner (for the 440-4 and wood grain trim???) and then 'saved' $100 by getting the bench seat. A 6-pack RR with buckets would still be $150 cheaper than a GTX! Must have been too mature for a silly horn and cartoon bird!

The P3 - "premium grade" cloth & vinyl bench was an OPTION in the '70 GTX. It was available in BLACK, BLUE & BURNT ORANGE.

Here's black

Base price of '70 Road Runner hardtop RM23 was $3034.00 vs. GTX hardtop RS23 was $3535.00 ($501 difference).

The P3 bench seat was a NO-COST OPTION in the GTX & was NOT available in the Road Runner.

GTX RS23 ($3535.00) + 440+6 ($119.05) + 727 (STANDARD) + bucket seats (STANDARD) = $3654.05

Road Runner RM23 ($3034.00) + 440+6 ($249.55) + 727 ($227.05) + bucket seats ($100.85) = $3611.45

$42.60 difference

Simply, the GTX was in a higher price class.
The $43 got you:
Woodgrain dash VS. black plastic dash
A differenct grill (which would you prefer GTX vs. RR?)
Emblems VS. stickers
Chrome tail lights & panel mouldings VS. body color & stripe
Side stripes STANDARD VS. "dust trail" OPTIONAL
Two horns VS. one
** Woodgrain door trim NA in Road Runner
** Wheel lip mouldings NA on Road Runner

How many where the gold color? Any Idea? It looks like a greenish gold to me but my buddy said it was some kind of gold.

The 70 amp/hr battery was part of the $249.55 RR upgrade to 440+6.

I intentionally left out the exhaust tips, some sources list it included w/440+6 on RR & some say my 440+6 GTX shouldn't have them w/N95 & N97.
Yet, the fender tag reads N41 N42 N85 N95 N96 N97.

The only 1970 "factory" gold was FY4 - "citron mist metallic"; '70 US spec. GTX ~ 286 +/- 4 (4%). Here's a FY4 Road Runner.
