Used 440 crank specs? - 10/31/10 02:18 AM
What is considered allowable taper and out-of-round on 440 crank journals? I think I read somewhere it is .001" for each, but I can't find that now, and that number sounds a tad large to me. Thanks!

Mains & Rods-Maximum out of round and/or taper: 0.001" from the '68 service manual.

that figure'd be allowable for a stocker but not for a perf app. Not sure what the allowable is but it'd very likely be less than .001"

Yea, I was thinking it would be more like .0005", or somewhere in that neighborhood. Sound right?

how much bearing clearance do you plan on? if you're clearances are tight, say, .0025, and you're out of round by .001, then you could see clearances as tight as .0015 on the mains...
