maybe some sort of reinforcement plate, like the old S shaped ones on some of them.

its had a shift kit installed.i beleive that is part of a mod so it will go to low gear if you desire at any speed.

yep part of a trans-go TF2 kit for low gear at any speed.

Nope. It's part of a TF-3 manual shift kit, the groove in the other side of the plate reroutes line pressure to the governor pressure channel. It must remain in place.

I don't know if having the linkage is going to make a difference wit ha TF-3 setup for manual mode , but I"ll let someone who knows better chime in .

I drove this thing around with out the linkage and it shifted fine while in (D) drive but a little afraid of burning it up with out it. at least thats what i'm being told. is it ok for me to just leave it in drive and not shift it manually ?

I don't know enough about the TF3 kit to answer the question, but you put it in drive and it shafted thru the gears ?

If it shifts in Drive the TF-3 kit isn't active, on second look that plate might be the one included in the TF-3 kit to return the VB to fully automatic. In either case the plate needs to be installed if there are holes drilled in the VB transfer plate.

In the full manual mode the TF-3 kit allows the TP linkage to be used or blocked wide open, if the transmission shifts in Drive the TP linkage needs to be hooked up.

johnrr- yes- it shifted while in drive and the linkage was not hooked up, I know it needs to be.
working on that problem.

just is that plate is throwing me off.

John_K - i had the whole VB apart and compared it to some others that I had and they all looked the same. including the transfer plate.

I havent filled the tranny yet so its not really a problem pulling the pan again. i guess its better to just leave it on. it shifted fine.
I would hate to fill it now and found out that the plate really is needed.

thanks guys

Must be a change they made because the last TF-2 I did, maybe 6 years ago, didn't have that , I still have the left over pieces for it and the instructions , I'll have to dig them out .

News to me, I've got a couple of kits that aren't much more than a year old and they don't have that plate, grinding the valve is all that's needed for the downshift mod.

Good ol' Transgo, always changing.
