Please help....Need trans decode!!!! - 10/25/10 06:09 PM

I have a 64 odge a100 that someone has fitted with a push button setup for the trans. I cannot figure out what the trans is...(2466091u1314572) is the number stamped on the trans.

If anyone could help that would be awesome, also need a park lever setup so I can put the truck in park, if anyone has ideas please let me know...

I can't find that number in any of my sources but 1314 is the build date March 3, 1965 so it's a '65 transmission.

Look at the pan shape.I will either be a 904 or a 727.

I'm no expert on the A100s but the full size trucks used a pushbutton shifter until 1965. It had no park position. The parking brake was on the back of the transmission in those years.

Since the A100 came out in 1964 it could have had a dash lever transmission selector before the trucks. I can't locate a picture of a 64 A100 dash. Maybe it had the pushbutton shifter in 64. The only stock automatic used was the 727.

This one does have the seperate park cable, and no park position on the buttons. The buttons and bezel appear to be from a 58 lancer. This truck was originally a 3spd manual truck, that someone has converted and put this trans and setup into. That's why I cannot figure out what it is.

The a100's used a top trans mount and this trans does not have that type of mount, I had to make a cross member to go under the trans tail housing like a car.

Your best bet is to find an original A100 dash shifter, they show up on e-bay occasionally.

If you choose to retain the pushbuttons you'll have to find a '62-'64 park mechanism and mount it to the dash. I had the same problem with my '57 NY that has a 727 and mounted the park mechanism under the dash.

I did find an a100 dash mount shifter, but my question now is will the push-button cable work hooked to a lever shifter? I know the park lock cable will, but not sure about the other.

The shifter I found is 250, and I don't want to buy it if it will not work. I have a shifter from a 68 a100 and it does not have the park lock cable provision, so it won't work. But the one on ebay will work if the cable will hookup and work right.

Is the Ebay shifter set up for two cables?

Yeah the ebay shifter is setup for 2 cables. I just don't know if the lever shift and push button cables interchange.

I just bought (NEW) push button cable 325.00, and a (NEW) park lock cable 275.00. So I would like to use them...

If the transmission still has its '65 valve body the lever shifter will hook right up with the correct cables. Unfortunately neither of the new cables you purchased will work with the lever shifter, the shifter ends are different.

The correct '64-'65 dash shifter has provisions for two cables, if the dash shifter is setup for a single cable it's a '66 or later.

My cables have the ends that just have a flat area with a hole in it, like to go on a stud and then have a hairpin, or e-clip.

Would the actual travel of the cables be the same? I can make ends work as long as the actual shift cable won't bind when I go to the 'park' position.

The cable core ends are different and so are the cable housing ends.

OK, so I basically am stuck with the PB setup. I just need to get it adjusted and working smooth, then come up with a park lever setup of some type then?.?.

I will forego buying the lever shifter then since my PB cable is Brand New. Any suggestions on a lever setup for the park lock??? (that cable is new also)..

Look at my second reply above, there's a pic of the under-dash Park lever that operates the 2nd cable.

Here's a look at the insides robbed from a PB shift quadrant.

Looks nice, I think I will try to mimic that setup somewhat, since I am stuck with the cables I have.

Any ideas on how to adjust the PB stuff correctly?
