I don't know if it's the BESTest, but I use Plastikote and had good results with it.

COME to think about it ..... I believe that PK made that for TRW.

Doesn't it cover and dry almost like a powder-coat?

I've had good luck with the Duplicolor brand. It goes on really thin and takes multiple coats, but once it cures it's very tough.

Yes, it covers really well with just 1 or 2 coats and is pretty durable I find.

My best results have always come from going to a paint shop that has the ability to put paint into spray cans.

Buy a quart of Centari or any other single stage of your choice, have 3 or 4 spray cans made up from that and you'll still have some left for touch-ups with those little foam brushes for later from whats left in the quart

I have had great luck with Dupli Color, and it seems to hold up very well.

duplicolor this go round

plasticoat last go round

no complants on either

I used more than needed, about 4 full cans for a small block

2 cans on let flash dry for a couple hrs,hit it with other 2 cans

nice and thick and tuff when cured by the heat

& when you have it as clean as you can then drown it w 2 buck fifty cans of ether starting fluid. On a hot day it flashes off quickly & takes off lint from your cleaning rag & last traces of oils. Nothing better for a final cleaning & as you know w painting it's (mostly) all in the prep

Plasti-Kote # 226 Chrysler Orange.

Available at Car-Quest. (they usually have to order it!)

Covers great and lasted really well on my last street driven 440!

Here it is on the new one:

Better one of the paint un-obstructed by the decal:

Valve cover was wirewheeled with a cup on an angle grinder, pits were filled, some wire tabs removed and it was wiped with wax and grease remover before being painted.

DON'T use VHT. Looks great, until your carb spills a little gas on it, then it peels up like crazy. Who would make a paint that doesn't stand up to gasoline, then call it an "engine paint"?.... I guess VHT would!

I agree with RapidRobert on degreasing it, he uses starting fluid, I use laquer thinner. Will kill just about any leftover greases/residues. I tried to rush one once, then had to do it over in 6 months........the paint lifted in several areas. I am sure it was because I skipped that step........it has been fine since I re-did it RIGHT..........here is my Dupli Color 340.

Oh, I also use Dupli Color aluminum primer for water pumps/intake manifolds. It is green. Covers like crap, but seems to hold up well on an engine.
