1" abody torsion bars .. too stiff ? - 09/30/10 01:14 PM
Are 1" torsion bars too big for 340 A body street car {with no sway bar} yet ? I would have prefered .92 but the prices are crazy.. found 1" bars for $200 at Just Suspensions .

I don't think they are too stiff, but my son's Barracuda has 1.14" bars with big sway bars and KYB shocks (known for stiffness) and I think it rides fine..........

I run 1.19 inches bars on the street. Not too harsh for me. I run the nose so low that I had to remove the bump stops. NEVER had it bottom out in 12000 miles.

what size rims and tires are you running? sidewall height and stiffness are important to know in determining appropriate spring rates.

I ran .99"/1" torsion bars from 1994 up until last month. About 60,000 miles on them.
Ran 225/60/15's, 225/50/15's, 245/50/15's, 235/60/15's tires over that period. The shorter sidewalled tires were always a little harsher.
I'd try to run some other shock than a KYB with 1" t-bars. Like a Bilstein. That will give you a better ride. But those are $400 for 4 shocks.

Tire size is 235/60r-14 on 14x7 Alum.rim .Yes I had read the post on Just suspension ..but for a torsion bar even if made in china a pretty simple device ..maybe they will be alittle soft or under spec just what I need anyway closer to a.92 rate LOL.???
