Superbird actuator questions - 09/27/10 03:15 PM

For those in the know,

Do you have to take off the nose to replace the actuators for a Superbird?

If so, can you use 70 Charger actuators?

Are they readily available?
If so, who sells them?

Thanks

Thanks for the link.
So are you saying that 70 Charger actuators would not work, but the 68/69s would as they are vacuum actuated?

'70 Charger is electric.

BE & A have repopped the actuators, but I "think" the are the '68 actuators.

Wilson products can rebuild the original actuators. www.n96airgrabber.com

You don't have to take the nose off,I've had mine out more than once in the last 18yrs.68/69 Charger are the same. When you unbolt them make sure you don't lose the small 1/4" spacer on the mounting screw. If you put it back without them, your door's won't shut completely.

You'll need the 69 vacumm canisters, the 68 have a rather large magnet in them,...the 70 Charger is an electric motor,...different animal,...

you don't need to remove the nose,..just remove the headlite bulbs and cups and perform surgery thru those holes, 2 nuts that hold the vacumm pod to the adapter bracket,...it'll be tight, real tight!,..cotter pin holding the pods arm to the pivot frame arm, and 1 vacumm line inside the bucket,...get those undone, then insert the replacement pod down thru the latchtray and fender opening,...I hope you have long arms/fingers ,...I've done a few this way on Tona's/Birds

Thanks for the feedback.

Sounds pretty painful removing them through the nose, but something tells me it's worse taking off the nose to get to them...

Yeah, their website shows 68 actuators only.

Wilson's rebuilds A/G actuators, not sure if they do headlight ones, they don't mention it...
