What stock type manifolds can I use?

What stock type manifolds can I use? - 09/13/10 07:24 PM

Re-doing my 69 Dart driver. I don't want to use headers and con't afford 68-69 340 manifolds. What can I use that will be cheap and efficeint? Jim

Have you looked at repros? Do they make them? I bought a HP set from year one really cheap in retrospect 2 years ago for a B body. Never hurts to look around. I didn't want headers either. Good Luck.

Here is a Mopar Muscle Magazine article comparing a variety of stock manifolds plus headers on a mild 360.

Mopar Muscle exhaust comparison.

I did hear something about some of the V-8 Magnum exhaust manifolds being fairly efficient, but I don't recall the specific years or if there would be any issues with exhaust pipe routing in a car due to their truck application.

Found this older moparts thread also!

moparts OEM exhaust manifold inquiry. .

I wrote about this several months ago, and I found very little interest in it. I am glad someone out there cares.
he 5.2 and 5.9 Magnum manifolds from full sized trucks look like winners, but only the right side fits. It is actually a really good flowing piece, and it has a superior design feature: the outlet flange is just above the oil filter, allowing for a much less restrictive downpipe. I have no idea why Chrysler installed center dump manifolds in these cars. The downpipe had to snake around the chassis AND the idler arm. Each bend in the exhaust adds backpressure. The Magnum RH manifold allows the downpipe to have ONE 45 degree bend.
The left manifold is the tough one, as I am sure you are aware. The best fitting and flowing manifold is the 68-71 340 piece, followed by the 72-73 340, then the 74 and later 360 manifolds. A Jeep Cherokee LH manifold might fit. The Durango and Dakota models also had the 5.2 and 5.9 magnum engines, and they may fit. I'm not sure.
I had a 70 340 manifold on the left and a 5.9 Mag RH manifold on my Frankenduster 360. They fit well. Good luck.

The 92-(early? 93) mag ex manifolds have an outlet dia of ~2&1/8" and the '93 up ones are 1&7/8. Quite a difference. Assuming that they will fit your app. Prob all covered in the posted threads.

we used late 90's magnum truck manifold ,they flow better than the 340 ones.

Did you use them on both sides?

The left Magnum manifold will NOT fit 67-76 A body cars, even with manual steering. the manifold body below ports # 1 and 3 wants to occupy the same space as the steering chuck. The outlet flange is too close to the firewall. The manifold MIGHT fit B or E bodies. I never thought to check.

I had a pair of the 92 magnum ones on my 68 cuda with manual steering

The turn off the left manifold was a little sharp but not bad.

The steering columb was tight but had 1/4 inch or so. Mabey slightly different motor mounts or K-frames or a tolarance stack up changes it a little

I tried fitment on a 73 Dart Sport 360 with spool mounts. I guess that the Pre 73 pad/biscuit mount design may allow more freedom to shim the engine up. It seems that this would mess with the driveline angle and cause some vibration issues. If it worked for you, thats great.

Fixing to test fit a set on my 65 A body, initial fit tests seems to show the only real possible point of contact is the very top corner of the steering box (manual).
