Yet another Question, exhaust ?

Yet another Question, exhaust ? - 09/02/10 02:12 AM

on my Duster, with Hedman Hedders I thought it'd be a fun change to try header mufflers. so I got some Purple Hornies, with intentions of adding pipes to the and out the back in a month or so. I was caught off guard when i realized the headers do hang closer toward the center of the car, causing these header mufflers to lay against the curve of the cross member. it looks like if the mufflers angled inward about 10 degrees it would be cool. I'm curious if it's a big deal to properly bend the neck on the muffler to make this clearance or should I just go with a regular headpipe set-up?

The main problem with these budget headers is that the manufacturer cuts corners to reduce costs. One of those shortcuts is the collector location. TTI headers are angled toward the raised sections of the torsion bar crossmember to allow for fewer bends in the exhaust pipes. There may be other brands that have this valueable feature. With THESE, you may be able to bolt a short extension to the collector, followed by your mufflers. I cant see an easy fit with the cheaper headers though.

Good point. May just ebay or craigslist these and get the standard glass packs under the back seat.

Why , just cut off the header flange and put a pipe in it ?
