b-body housing in an a-body??? - 08/22/08 02:14 AM

Someone told me this evening that i can get a b-body 8 3/4 housing onto stock width a-body springs. He said that you drop one on the pin, bolt it down and push the springs apart to fit the other pin. Only an inch difference in pad width. Says with properly back-spaced wheels, this works great in an a Duster? Is this true?

If so i'll be

Yup, it's true.

I did it to a 69 dart.

Easiest on a duster/demon, as the wheel wells are open, and the tire clearance doesn't become an issue.

66-67 B body is the narrowest B housing (just less than 1" wider on the perches, and about 1" total width difference) so find one of them, and have at 'er.

The 65-67 B-rears are the narrowest of the bunch, and the best fit in an A-body. Go ahead and relocate the perches to A-body width to keep all your existing wheel well space, or go for another 3/4" with a kit from DoctorDiff and others to max out without cutting. An 8" wheel with about 5.75" backspace should be a real nice fit, and you could go wider in a Duster if you measure closely.
