Intrepid starting hard when hot

Intrepid starting hard when hot - 08/28/10 01:20 AM

I have a '99 Intrepid with the 3.2, 105k miles. It starts just fine when it has been sitting a while, but if i go to start it shortly after shutting it off it cranks over for a while and idles rough at first, then smooths out. It runs excellent other than this. Any ideas?

I would start by checking fuel pressure.

Put a pressure gauge on it and see if it bleeds off without the engine running.

when it does bleed off, what does that indicate is in trouble?

It could bleed off fuel pressure, usually via a leaking: injector, regulator, or fuel pump. However, if it did this, I'd think it would start hard cold, too.

It's just that fuel pressure is a good place to start.

I suppose that if it did bleed off fuel somewhere, resulting in lower pressure, then it could vapor lock when hot. When it cooled down, though, it might be OK again.
