I have a 1967 Dodge Coronet with a 440 727 combo. I had an old Dodge mechanic rebuild my trans. The trans only has about 100 miles on the rebuild. Well the trans is leaking from the bellhousing. Originally the trans was rebuilt with a copper front bearing. I bought the new torque converter they said I needed to replace the copper bearing with the brass bearing given with the torque converter. I put the brass bearing in.

What is the general census of what my problem might be ?

Could you have overfilled the tranny and it is leaking out of the vent into the bell housing area? In my experience, the transmission dip stick may not be exactly correct; you may want to drive it and see if it stops weaping fluid before you tear into it.

Mine done the same thing. Found the converter was draining causing the fluid to push out the vent hole in the front pump.

It doesn't leak while driving. It only starts leaking when I park it and the car sits for a few days.

I have a large tranny cooler and a 4 quart more than stock tranny pan by B&M.

actually it probably does leak when you are driving,it's just a small amount and takes time to form a leak.

If it is leaking I don't see it after driving. Normally it takes a few days and I'll see tranny fluid all over the front of the tranny pan with a trail coming from the bellhousing.

I'm using a stock tranny dipstick and tube. So far its still showing that the trans in a quart or two low on tranny fluid.

My car does the exact same thing! I cant figure it out and dont want to drop the tranny.

Mine is doing it and it is the seal around the shifter lever. When the tranny is running the level drops but when you shut the car off fluid runs back into the pan just enough to reach the seal and leak if the tranny is level. Nose down or drivers side up and it won't leak.

I'm lazy I just park at odd angles until I get around to rebuilding it.

What's the correct way to solve the problem ?

Drop the tranny ?

Or is there an easy fix that I'm missing ?

I would check around the shifter shaft seal very carefully. The fluid level rises as the convertor drains over a few days to a level above the shifter seal and trans fluid will drip down to he pan rail and then run along the front of the tranny and may look like a pan gasket leak or front seal leak. The shifter seal can be replaced with the tranny in in the car. Some people like to drop the valve body, but I have done it with the tranny intact, but dropped the rear cross member to lower the tranny for better access.
