Would it be worth it to get the 440 engine and trans. out of it? Can get it for cheap money. Does the trans have the extra clutch drum in it?

The 727 may be a shorty, but should have the heavy duty internals. If you get it, and the passenger side exhaust manifold isn't cracked...I may be willing to give you some of your cheap money back.

Hey Doc....I think he may mean the extra planetary gears. Didn't all HD trans have those? Oh....and thanks for the brake hose tip One of mine was rusty, just like you said.

JD ... HD P-gears meaning 4 gear set ? .. roger that. Your brake hose ...was rusted up enough to close-off the return of brake-fluid so the brake caliper was not releasing ?

I would say so,if it runs good

i got my 78 440/727 shorty for my 88 truck build

75,000 miles on the clock for 300$

swaped oil pans from front sump to rear sump and bolted it right in on the 85 frame

FYI the shorty tranz could have the tranz mount moved forward 2" compaired to a long tail 727...I made a xmember from square stock and the stock lower brackets and used the MH flat rubber tranz mount,it had the speedo hook up in a diff spot-no worky with stock xmember...some shortys may have the park brake drum on the tail shaft also

the tranz will be the HD with 4 planatary gears but no hemi clutch drum

I used a CRT full manual Vb to drop the stock throttle pressure linkage (hard to come by and big $$$)

thats it in the sig pic

Yep...little bracket in the middle of the hose was rusted. Here's the shocker....O'Reilys had BOTH hoses in stock!

its definantly worth it. i pulled a 413 and hd 727 out of a 40 footer a few years back. we used to take that damn thing over the rockies with a trailer loaded to the gills. the tranny is a fine one. keep it forever. they'll never make em again.
