Fuel pump problem

Fuel pump problem - 08/12/10 01:21 AM

I took out my engine to replace the rear main and all the gaskets and to repaint it.

Now that it is back in the car I can't get any fuel from the pump.
I took off the pump and bench tested it and it shot gas across my bench.
I removed the distributor to check the pump rod. It was moving like it should. But still no gas is being pumped.

When I did this I had a gas line running into a bottle full of gas in case it was plugged from the tank.

The engine is a 400.

Sure you got fuel pump push rod under the push rod? It can be forced together this way.

Yes. Push rod was in the right spot. I could see it moving on the cam as the engine was turned over. If it was wrong it wouldn't stay against the cam.

I will check the pushrod, but it ran fine when I pulled the engine out.

get a length of 5/16 fuel line and a funnel and hook it to the pump inlet & dribble some gas in to prime it
