318 to 360 - 08/01/10 05:27 PM

If i get a 360 short block can i use intake,heads,water pump,distributor, from a 318?

LA to LA, Magnum to Magnum everything will bolt on with no mods. However, running 318 heads and intake will choke up the 360, and kinda negate the swap...

I have run 318 heads on stock 360 short blocks

not a high rev race motor, but does make a good torque monster for a work truck

works great in an A-body also..

I like the closed chamber #302 heads from a 318 on the 360 with a LD4B intake,600 carb,headers,good 318 size cam...kinda a poor boy stroker if you will

you will need a 360 balanced B&M flywheel to run the N balance 318 torque converter behind the 360

or a weighted 360 TC for you tranz

oil pans dont swap either, every thing else bolts up

Keep in mind driver's side motor mount ears are slightly different between 318 and 360 also. Just a little tweaking should be needed to make it work. Good luck

...or a small stack of flat washers....

Also you need the correct balancer and flywheel"manual"/torque convertoror B/M flexplate "auto". The 360 is externalily balnced

Plus the 360 uses a different oil pan.

What if you open the 318 heads for the bigger 1.88/1.62 valves though?

You would still have the small ports of the 318. You might as well gets some cheap 360 heads or the RHS heads if you are going to spend any money on stock 318/360 heads imo.

Shumacher http://www.engine-swaps.com/ also sells a specific bracket for this swap.

i did the 1.88/1.60 valves in a 318 #302 head

it helps on the breathing and keep port volosity up high with the swirl port closed chamberd head

it will raise the CR up 1 point and to around 9.0 to 1 IIRC

used the small summet cam and worked real well for me several times in the 4x4 and work trucks

monster torque but not a high rev race engine

in the a-body the torque way down low was fun to drive on the sreet

torque rules on getting it to move

on the same flip...I have run alot of 360 heads on a 318 with good results

does lower the CR but makes up for it with the right came and more HP and higher rpms

run what ya brung

my next sb build is comeing along also

360 crank in a 318 roller block with the 360 open heads.. stock low comp pistons +5 out the hole with a .040 head gasket

wont have high revs but should make a nice work truck stroker on a budget

So where would the washers go ... between the mount and the front ear or the rear ear of the block??

either or on the ear/mount

which ever way it lines up,you will see the gap on the one side of the bracket and ear...fill it with washers
