70 Charger Shifter Removal

this is my first Mopar car and my first attempt to disassemble a car, so go easy on me.. i am stumped trying to remove the shifter knob. i removed the allen key screw that holds the knob in. i tried turning it both ways but it springs back. i tried depressing the button down and turning it, no luck there either.. please help.. i can post pictures if that helps...thanks

Spin the center black knob counter clockwise and it will evenrually unscrew from the cable. Then the chrome knob will slip off.
