Symptoms of bad instrument voltage regulator?

Symptoms of bad instrument voltage regulator? - 07/02/10 01:09 AM

All,
What type of symptoms are common when the IVR starts to head south? All my gauges work but they seem to have started reading higher than normal now. Just curious if this could be the IVR. This is a '70 rallye gauge package so I guess the IVR is in the fuel gauge. What symptoms are normal if the cap goes bad?

All gauges except ammeter will together read higher or lower than they're supposed to can certainly be the voltage limiter failing.

Well it almost appears that the fuel, oil, and temp gauge are all reading a bit higher than they used to. My temp gauge was the first I noticed as it always used to run one click below middle and now it is two clicks above and sometimes bounces around a little bit. Then trying to chase down a fuel issue i realized my fuel is now completely empty when the gauge still shows 1/8 tank. Oil pressure definitely seemed to go a bit higher too. Wasn't sure if it was the IVR or the cap discharging etc.

There was a company that was selling new ones but I forgot the companies name.

Mine were reading too low to too high together on my 71, and the last nos one(voltage limiter) I could find took care of it.

If you need a new one and don't want to fiddle with yours try this one: http://rt-eng.com/mediawiki/index.php/RTE_ABlimiter If that's what your talking about.

Yep, was going to call them tomorrow. Just want to find out if that's what the problem is first. I really need to convert the ammeter over as well. This just had me baffled why all of a sudden I thought the car started running much hotter on the gauge when the actual temp was really around 190 degrees. The the fuel issue as well..
