rear leaf spring relocation kit/install $$?? - 08/13/08 06:25 PM

Hello,

Just wondering what would the price range be for a shop to put in a rear leaf spring relocation kit - the 3" kit that is? Any ideas? It would go into my '67 Coronet.

Thanks for the input!

I did it myself and it was a big job. Alot of cutting, measuring and welding. It took me two days to do it - full days. I would bet a shop would hit you with at least 10 hours of labor at the least. Resto/speed shops get $75-$125 an hour around here so...figure they would probably want at least $700 up to $1,200 to do it.

Just a figure...

We did it to a 69 Coronet. I wanted to use 15 x 10 wheels with 3 1/2 backspacing so we narrowed the rear end 3". Springs were original so needed upgrades with all new hardware plus exhaust is a prob so new stuff. Two days 2 people with one being a good welder. All done all our labor including housing narrow work and new Moser axles we figure a little over a grand. New suspention without air shocks and the look I wanted well worth it. Since the car was due some of it anyway the cost and time was fine. After we tightened up the rear we found the front suspention was in need of new modern upgrades. Subframe connectors came later and the car is great with it all. I would suggest doing the connectors at the same time and save by combining the work. Results are wonderfull.

Thanks for the input... to be honest, I'm having it done this week and should pick it up tomorrow or Friday... the quote I got was between 2,000-2,500 for the spring relocation kit, fuel system (fuel cell already installed - needed fuel lines/ele. pump set up) and exhaust re-routing (to the rear bumper). The place I took it to is A++ so I have no issues spending a little more to get it done right the first time... I guess my quote seems reasonable.

Sounds great be sure to get a couple of pics with big tires for us. those cars look great with the wheel wells filled and is what inspired us. As long as you are comfortable with the money and are happy with the work it will be a bargin.
