got an 86 Aries with the single pulley rotary compressor,how hard Is It to remove and replace the clutch/pulley assy.?

I think it's just a matter of removing the nut in the center then pull off the pulley. You won't lose any freon because you don't open the system. You should be able to rent or borrow a puller from a good parts store if you need it.

i thought so too,so I have a junk one,took off the center nut,and tried to pull It off with no success

You're gonna have to pry the top plate off with a screwdriver, two would work better. Once the top plate is off there is a snapring underneath that needs to be removed so the pulley can be removed.with the pulley removed there is another snapring that holds the magnetic field to the compressor.
