Correct color for a 1973 340 air cleaner - 06/19/10 03:47 AM
I have a 73 challenger 340 and I would like to know the correct color to paint my 340 air cleaner. What is the best kind of paint to buy it in also. Thanks

I believe that either in 72 or 73 Ma Mopar switched from the black to the orange color. Its NOT the same shade of orange as the engines were. Its a little softer than street HEMI orange.
The factory sprayed them in large batches, so you know it wasn't from spray cans! YOU could though, with decent results, as long as you take your time and spray 3-4 thin coats with 15 minutes between applications.

The performance mills for 73 and 74 used the same colored ORANGE air cleaner.
I had a worn out but correct 74 Dart Sport 360 with the Orange air cleaner. I didn't know the value at the time, but I remember thinking that a blue engine with an orange air cleaner looked wierd.

I'm interested in a paint code for the '72-'74 air cleaner orange if anyone has it.
Thanks.

I simply went and get a basic ORANGE spray can. Actually once I sprayed just on outside I allmost couldn't tell the difference with inside parts that I didn't paint. Maybe new one a little bit ALLMOST UNNOTICEABLE darker but if you think the original paint must be faded due the years and heat, it is simply quite good and cheap!!!!
I can't be very picky on this anyway.... had to paint my engine on ANTIQUE FORD BLUE due no Chrysler colors in Venezuela, and I think you hardly will note any difference from corporated blue chrysler :

That's why I posted this, hoping someone would give the formula. My air cleaner had been repainted before so it's not a good sample for the paint scanner.
