904 transmission sound has me baffled

my 72 barracuda's 904 transmission is makeing a ticking noise when it is in gear. it a constant tick like if a bolt from the flex plate would hit the motor on rotation but it not that since i only hear the sound in gear yet the transmission seems to run fine. does any one have an idea of what it might be thanks

Could it possibly be a slight exhaust leak your hearing? I have had cars in the past do that, at idle in park you could not hear it when you put it in gear it would drop the rpm's just enough to make it noticeable. Just a thought.

Don't rule out the flexplate area just because it only does it in gear, the converter load changes from Neutral to "in gear".

Did you build the 904 to handle that motor ?
