built 426 hemi what oil to use? - 06/07/10 06:03 PM
I have a built 426 hemi with a roller cam. This is street/strip car that will never see cold weather. Im still going to use the zinc additive even though its a roller cam. Any sugg. on what oil to use? I have acess to 15w40 diesel hp oil and 5w30 synthetic but would like a recomendation. Thanks

I have the same setup, modified Hemi with roller, Vavoline VR1 10-30 is great. If I didn't have cold weather - or - I raced more, I would use the 20-50.
Can you talk to the engine builder to ask for their recommendation?

Been using 10W-30 in mine for 25 years now. Solid lifter car, so nowadays I add some GM break-in lube for the zinc.

10w30 seems to be the oil, would it hurt to use 15w40?

My 528 runs a flat tappet solid, I've been running shell rotella 15/40 heavy duty diesel oil since it was first fired 4 years ago. Dave
