Mcleod clutch with no peddle feel - 08/11/08 02:49 AM
I just installed a new mcleod clutch in my 68 charger. It was pieced together by brewers based on my engine combo. I installed it with a 1/4" of space between the throwout bearing and the pressure plate. Thats what the mcleod instructions say to do. when i depress the peddle it has no resistance at all. I havent started the new engine so im not sure if it will work ok. How much resistance is there in your guys clutches. Its the diaphragm style

can you put it into gear?
I think a 1/4" might be too much, but I don't know. I have a 3 finger hydro clutch and the directions said to have between .125 and .180 (or somewhere around there) of space from the bearing to the fingers. I usually set it at just less than 3/16"

Yeah it shifts into all the gears. I have to push the peddle about half way down before i get any resistance. once i get the car going i can mess with it more but i was just curious if that is how a diaphragm pressure plate feels

It's a diaphram clutch you have to remove the big over center spring off the clutch peddle, mopars did not use that type of clutch originally

the guys at brewers said there was no performance difference in going with one or the other. I figured at least if i get a diaphragm style then i can let anyone drive the car without them getting a leg workout. I guess i will see how it is in a few days
