Replacing Mechanical Fuel Pump on BB Motor.

Hi,
I am just starting out on Mopar mechanics, and would like to replace the fuel pump on a '70 440 motor. I would appreciate if anyone can let me know if I'm overlooking anything here..

The removal/replacement of this looks fairly straightforward -- I just unhook the fuel lines and unbolt the pump off the motor. Then, for re-install, after cleaning the old gasket material from the mating surface on the block, put a new gasket with sealer and bolt the new one in and re-hook up fuel lines.

Is that it, or am I overlooking something? Are there any special settings to make when inserting the mechanical lever for the pump into the block?

Also, do you guys have any recommendations for a good stock replacement pump? Would a Carter or Holley pump be best? I would like to maintain stock psi, as I am not running any fuel regulators, etc.

Between the pump and the cam there is a small little rod connecting the two, you might want to replace that while you're there if its a high mileaage motor.

the fuel pump pushrod may try to slide down. take out the plug below the fuel pump and poke something up there to hold the rod in position while you feed the pump arm in.

Yeag watch the rod.Ive seen a bunch installed that dont work because they didnt get the rod on the pump arm.Also make sure the cam is at it furthest position so the rod isnt putting a lot of pressure on the pum arm.I use Holleys.Had 4 bad Carters in a row.That made me go back to the Holley pump.Rocky
