Correct Carter AVS choke adj procedure? - 05/12/10 09:51 PM

Trying to sort out the correct choke setting procedure for my AVS. The FSM is no real help in this area....

I have one of the repro "45" chokes bolted to the intake. I originally had a hard time getting the rod to even fit without jamming up the choke butterfly. Finally got some advice from 62max I think about loosening the nut on the bi-metallic spring to shorten up the rod a bit but now I think I went too far.
Choke wont set in the AM....and when I manually activate the fast idle, it wont kick down.

HELP!

A good starting point is when you open the throttle to set the choke to where the spring tension closes the choke blade lightly @ 70 deg F. When it starts, the choke pulloff will open it slightly and when hot it needs to be open completely so check that since you have played w the rod length/bends

Thanks. I tried playing with it yesterday but to no avail. Still cant get the choke to close when opening the throttle.
PITA part is the fact you have to take the carb bolts out to adjust the choke spring....

One guy over @ the /6 club added a mini turnbuckle to fine tune his and since yours requires the carb off might check into that especially since your bends are not right. Good luck. A functioning choke is a Godsend for a quick getaway on those chilly mornings
