E-body parking light turn signal questions - 05/03/10 03:32 PM

Sorry for dumb sounding questions, but I don't have the car to look at right now.

On a 1970 Challenger there are two lights in the front valance panel with amber lenses. Do those serve as both the parking lights as well as the turn indicator lights?

How many filaments are in the bulbs for those front valance lights?

How many wires are in the pigtail for those front valance lights.

Dual fillament it looks like, and here is the wiring..

Please check my logic on this.

The front valance lights are enclosed in a plastic housing, so there must be a ground wire in the pigtail right?

If the bulb has two filaments then there must be two supply wires in the pigtail right?

So that means the pigtail harness going into the front valance light has a total of three wires, is that right?

No, The front valance lights are grounded thru the housing, it's cast aluiminum. The plugs are color coded, one for the valance panel and one for the side markers. with single bullet connectors for the fender mounted turn lights being separate. All in the same wire harness.

Okay, check me again.

Front parking lights are grounded through the housing/valance, correct?

Front parking light bulbs contain two filaments, correct?

Wiring harness has three wires, two supply wires for the parking light and one for the side marker light, correct?

Yes. Later E bodies had a plastic valence insert and had a seperate ground wire.

Correct but for the parking light on one filament, one for the turn signal.

So, to add to it, the lights in valance each have a two filament bulb, that are parking light for one filament and turn signal on the other filament. If the bulb sockets have just two wires each, that means the grounding is done through mounting screws like mentioned. IF there is a single wire hanging around coming out of that harness, it will be for the fendertop mounted turn sig indicators if the car was optioned as such.

The housings do ground through the valence. Make sure you have a good ground or you might be like me and chase non-existant electrical gremlins when all you really needed was a little sandpaper
