Dumb shock absorber questions - Edelbrock IAS - 04/30/10 04:54 PM

Does it matter which direction the IAS classic shocks are mounted in the rear of a Challenger? I would prefer to mount the end with the rubber bellows up so it is less visible from the rear of the car. The mounting points appear to be identical at each end but the Edelbrock name is oriented as if the bellows end of the shock would go down.

Here is what I found on Jeg's website.

It says body up, piston down.

Interesting, my shocks came with a similar instruction sheet that said something like 'depending on the application shock may be mounted up or down' right in the same place that says 'Body of shock must mount up' on this instruction sheet. I don't have access to a scanner right now to post it. Since in my application it could go either way I'm not sure what to do, but I do know what I want to do. Guess not may people are using these shocks.

I did notice that the instruction sheet from the Jeg's website is for the Performer shocks, mine are the Classics. Don't know if that matters.

Give them a call and ask. I'm sure they've got a tech line

In case anyone else is wondering I called Edelbrock tech support. They said that the shocks mount with the body up and the rod down. Since this means that the rubber bellows would be down and visible from the back of the car I'm sending these back. Not the look I'm going for with this car. Maybe I need to spring for Konis.
