73 Duster brakes on a 64 Barracuda

I am using a 73 Duster front disc brake set-up on my 64 Barracuda. I would also like to run the stock sway bar. The problem is that the sway bar links hit the brake caliper. I was told that the calipers should go toward the front. Is that correct? I am also using the 73 Duster brake lines and they will not work if I have the calipers to the back. Please fill me in on this set-up. Thanks for all the help

The methods that I have heard of involve swapping the entire steering knuckle from side to side so the caliper sits toward the rear. This allows sway bar clearance and is actually better for weight distribution. The Aspen/Volare cars were set up this way, as well as all the Diplomat/5th ave cars. You could use a brake line from one of those cars, but they used a different caliper. The connection to the caliper may be different. Oh yeah... how did you mount the front sway bar? The 73-76 cars had the bar passing through the K frame. The 63-72 was a totally different design.

You'll have to make a design change somewhere to get the parts to fit together. Either change the anti-sway bar design like the factory did in 1973 or change the caliper mounting location like the factory did on the FMJ cars.

63-66 A-bodies are also narrower than their 67+ counterparts. Sway bar would need to be bent. Also, its a completely different method of attaching on the early cars. Be easier to buy a kit. BTDT

The 64 Barracuda sway bar mounts to the front of the K-frame. I am going to take it apart today and see if I can run the calipers on the back.

You can unbolt the lines from the calipers and turn them 180* so they face the rear when the calipers are rear-mounted (side-to-side spindle swap). The lines have a steel tubing section that can be bent as necessary to prevent stress on the flexible portion with suspension travel. The calipers might hit the shocks when mounted this way, check it for clearance. You don't need to change anything but go easy when turned to full lock.
