Crank Sprocket Which dot lines up? Photo redone. - 04/18/10 06:50 PM

There are two dots on this sprocket. It has an MP number visible on it.

Which dot is suppposed to line up to the cam sprocket dot?

Can't get to the photo, but use the dot that is straight up when #1 or #6 piston is at tdc. That is also when the crankshaft keyway is at the 1.30 clock position when viewing from front. (half way between 12 oclock and 3 oclock) THis is a mopar v-8, right? Found pic, DO NOT LINE THE DOT AT KEYWAY up.

So, the way it is, it would have an 11* advance, right? I'm really hazy on this particular stuff.

In the pic the "dots" appear to be pretty much at the bottom of the teeth root 3 grooves apart so if there's 24 grooves, 24 into 360 is 15, times 3 grooves is 45 & half that (going from crank to cam) is 22&1/2 cam degrees.

That's not surprising with your cam advanced 45 crank degrees!

Did the pistons and the valves meet?
Any ugly noises... better check compression...

Very deep valve reliefs with 484 lift.. No metallic sounds of any kind.

I'm wondering why the keyway has been stamped w a dot?? No need for it that I know of and it's sure going to cause problems

Only reason would be if it was an advance-retard gearset, and it don't look like it, so....
