SB Rocker Shafts - How to tighten w/ Solid lifters - 04/18/10 11:24 AM

Need some help on what the correct way is to tighten the rocker shafts down to aluminum heads with solid roller lifters.

The order I use is tighten all 5 finger tight to where the shaft is level (w the same distance to each saddle) then tighten center bolt 1/4 turn then the one right of center 1/4 turn then the one left of center 1/4 turn then the one far right 1/4 turn then the one far left 1/4 turn. This way regardless of where each valve is at you are drawing the shaft down horizontle and evenly.The only trick is to only go 1/4 turn each time as some will be loose and some will be under tension. I'm not grasping what the difference would be between solids/hydraulics as far as drawing the shaft down

if you have solid lifters you better have adjustable rocker arms.

I do have adjustable rocker arms...the question that I was asking is whats the best way to tighten down the rocker arm shaft. It seems to be different with solid lifters because the push rods cant compress the lifter any.

Back off the adjusters,tighten the shafts,rapidrobert has that correct,and set lash.
