rear end----68 b-Body vs truck width - 04/13/10 07:10 PM

Is the width of a 68 b-body rear the same as a truck rear???
if not whats the difference????
will the leaf springs line up w/the plates and pins
I took rear to local shop and I'm wandering if they could have switched it out on me.
put on new super stock leaf springs w/275-60-15 tires on 10" wheels and tires rub pretty bad..

a 68 B rear should be 60 1/8 wide with 43" pads..

a truck rear

65-71 61 13/16
72-74 64 3/8 0n 44" pads

A-body and truck share the 43" spring center

IIRC the 68 B-body housing would have 44" spring centers

the springs on an A-body will spred enuff to use the B-body rear with 44" pads

the C-body 8 3/4 is the same width as a truck 8 3/4...59" flange to flange, but the spring centers are diff on the C-body housing

I cant figure the 8 3/4- 55" flange to flange with 46" spring centers I have..its a 67 B -body I thought but told a 67 polara was a c-body

also was told its a E-body housing

the axles are 30"

did the axle and tire combo fit before the shop work???

Truck won't directly interchange with a car diff no matter how close the widths are.

The perches are on the wrong side of the axle housing.

I've seen C body diffs stuck in B's,then have tire clearance issues.

the springs on an A-body will spred enuff to use the B-body rear

Oh come on! What kind of hack would try to bend the springs to fit?

me,I have done a few

they dont bend they spred some with the rubber bushing enuff to bolt in

its only 1/2" - 1/4" each side

lost less work hassle of cuting welding buy new perches
