How loud are the Dynomax Super Turbo? (audio added) - 04/11/10 01:15 AM

I'm getting ready to pull the trigger on a TTI exhaust system for my 340 Challenger.

I prefer a louder non-stock sound. How do the Dynomax Super Turbos sound?

Take a listen to what I have now. Would the Dynomax be louder or quieter?
I can't tell what I have now, they're so rusted.

I have them on my 68 318 barracuda .But I don't have tailpipes yet.Not real loud.Sounds a little muffled,but like I said- no tailpipes yet.Not as raspy as I would like.Not loud,That was what I was looking for being a convertible.I would say a Low rumble,compared to a factory type sound level.I plan on an x pipe and tailpipes in the near future.D.S that does sound good.My 2 1/4 inch pipe 318 doesn't sound that good.

3" system with their H-pipe and a .575/.587 lift cam in a 383 do help.

I like them because they have no drone when cruising at a certain RPM like I've heard from Flowmasters.

I had some SuperTurbos on my 440 and it was too quiet. I went with glasspacks and that is too loud. Now I'm trying to find a happy medium. The glasspacks are great until I stand on the throttle. Now I'm thinking Magnaflow or Ultraflows. The Magnaflows are about 10% less expensive than the Ultraflows though the Ultraflows I've had over the years were great mufflers.

They are loud enough to hear the engine and have a sweet growl at low speeds.
They do not drone at any speed and are totally quiet at highway crusing speed.
If you are looking for the thousand horsepower louder than it should be , go with flowmasters..

If you need more "blap", you need more motor with a larger cam and better lobe separation angle.

They droned on my stock 383 RR with full exhaust x pipe and stock exh manifolds, had to install resonators. if you do some searching you will find a lot of drone with guys using stock exh manifolds and full exhaust, headers not a problem.

I agree, they will drone with exhaust manifolds. I have them on a 78 Trans Am with crossover pipe.

I have 3" tti exhaust, H-pipe and Dynomax Super Turbos with a hemi. I like it a lot. It's louder than stock but not as loud as Flowmasters. I find loud mufflers and highway drone obnoxious as I get older.

Had them on a 72 Dart, 360 iron manifolds, no drone, sounded like the video clip at idle, quiet on the highway. At the same time I had a 64 300 with Flowmasters that were loud (413, iron manifolds) loud enough to wake the neighbors when I left for work and loud enough to trip car alarms.

Would Super Turbo's be much quieter than Hooker Aero chambers? Or about the same? I have 2 1/2" hookers on my car now and I love the sound, but it's just a little too loud now for my taste.

I have a TTI header, 21/2 inch exhaust system and the the dynamax mufflers supplies with the system on my duster 340. My motor has just been is rebuilt with cam and pistons last year. I have had a lot of compliments on sound of my exhaust. It's not to loud but still not over bearing. At 60mph it has has a nice rumble tone to it and you can still hear and talk inside the car. My friend just got a duster 360 with flow masters. He can't hear himself think at idle or driving it is so loud. Needless to say, the flowmasters are going into junk pile.

cnxt - Not sure what you have now, but based on your sound clips, Dynomax Super Turbos will NOT be as loud. I posted below a chart of different mufflers with the decibel levels.

I will also add that I am running the larger case "hemi" dynomax, for improved flow..(normally recommended for Motorhome or towing or truck apps.) They fit a B or C body fine, I am not sure about A body..
The car picked up a ton of power from the repo factory style mufflers I replaced..

On my Roadrunner project I sprung for some NOS Hush Thrush... and they are a lot louder...

Hmm, cars must be alot louder inside then my truck. Anybody that is going to throw away thier Flowmasters can send them to me. My truck has 3" exhaust with crossover, Super 40's and tailpipes way out the back, and long tube headers up front. When I did drive it on the street it was quite enough not to cause any unwanted attention, had a nice rumble, and nice sound at WOT. This however is a full size truck with 8' bed too. Here is what is sounds like at 6000 rpms and a good load. The tailpipes point straight at the big chunk of steel behind my truck.

Like your post...super turbos on the TTI 2 1/2" X pipe system with their 1 7/8" headers.

I like them. Not too loud and not too soft. I guess they could be a tick louder at idle, but I don't care for flowmasters much.

i dont know wether that's been said already but it'll make a big difference wether you are using 2,5 or a 3" system. the cam will make a big difference, too.

you know that by the videos I have found the superturbos look to be more noisy really than the ultarflows but I think is more high pitch related than effective NOISE...

Db measuremenst covers all the audio bandwidth, BUT the mid frequency are the most disturbing to the human at same leves than lower frequencies. So even getting same or more Db level on Ultraflows the lower frequency is less disturbing on them

As I have had both on my car with an X-pipe, the ultraflows to me are quieter at cruising speeds. The straight through design vs. the turbo style seems to help it breath better at those rpms. Now I am referring to inside the car noise not exterior........but who cares about that!!

I am also working with 3" exhaust and 11:1 440.

2-1/2" TTi with SuperTurbo's.
IMHO,they are the best sounding muffs for Mopars.
Leave the Flowmasters for the BBC and 5.0L crowd.

That's a very interesting point, the human ear can really on hear between 500 - 2500Hz, the test methods for sound pressure levels (dBs) usually measure all the way up to 20,000Hz. So it's very possible that mufflers could "appear" louder on a standardize chart, when in practice the opposite could be true.

It's sorta like using a microscope to view a sign, then wondering why is appears fuzzy with just glasses.

here is my 360 dart with dynomax super turbos. tti headers, 3" pipe, magnaflow x-pipe, mufflers and 3" tail pipes. i went with the bigger case 3" muffler. the car is so nice and quiet inside now. i love it...

in person the car is deeper sounding and not quite as loud sounding. must have been an echo off the house or something..

Ditto..This is 2" header TTI system with a full 3" x-tube with Dynomax Super Turbo mufflers out the back valence with tips. Be advised that the tailpies and type of tips change the sound pretty significantly too. While I was installing the electric cutouts, I have the tailpipe removed. It's a lot deeper of an exhaust note and is significantly louder. Not much of a surprise there. http://www.facebook.com/video/video.php?v=253879558807&saved
