neon revs up by its self! throttle sensor? - 04/10/10 11:11 PM

2004 neon . it just started reving up with out me giving it any throttle. i turned it off before it got too far and tried again but it will go past 4000 rpm by its self.
could it be the throttle position sensor or something else?

i had an 86 daytona do that one time and it was the sensor.
any ideas? thanks

Check the connecting bellows between the intake manifold and the air box. The throttle body is mounted on the air box and if the bellows has a leak then the RPMs take off uncontrollably.

Check the Tube going from the EGR Valve to the intake manifold. They will come loose and the engine will take off. As far as the electronics can tell the engine is getting air so it feeds it more fuel and apparently ignores the TPS.

It's under the Throttle Body next to the battery area.

Hope it helps.

The bellows seal with a big hose clamp on each end. Check the clamps for tightness, and the bellows itself for cracks or holes.
