groan from left rear wheel....bearing? - 04/07/10 06:07 AM
I am assuming its the axel bearing going out, but was looking for others thoughts. Here is the situation:
70 road runner
4 wheel SSBC disc brakes
green bearings
There is a groan from the drivers side rear wheel. Mostly when I make right turns and will continue while going straight for a few seconds. Turning left makes no noise.
I jacked the rear of the car up and when I turn the wheel by hand the groan is there and is pretty loud, when I remove the tire and spin the rotor assembly the groan goes away, putting the wheel back on and it comes back.
So it seems there is something compressing with the wheel being tightened...
There is nothing rubbing or scrapping...so the only thing I can think of is the bearing going south...any other thoughts?
