Removing battery acid from innner fender

Removing battery acid from innner fender - 04/07/10 02:28 AM

My battery belched crap on part of the inner fender this weekend and so far have tried wet sanding with 1000 grit and also some 3M grease and wax remover. Only one place did it eat through the paint/primer and everything but that is hidden somewhat behind the battery. The paint is a dark green (GG1) and is now spotted black where the acid has discolored it but the paint is still there. Any thing else to try besides sanding it all down and re-shooting it?

baking soda and water to remove any acid that remains. might have to touch up the other areas.

Some polishing or rubbing compound would be worth a try.

I tried some wax on a couple of the spots on the underside of the hood which is a base coat/clear coat and got the stains off no problem. The hood was painted at a different time from the rest of the car. The engine bay was painted in enamel and not making any progress, i'll try some light compound and see if I can get everything back to green again.
