73-74 b body frame connectors - 04/02/10 07:42 PM

So is there a source for a frame connector for the 73-74 b bodys?

I see the C.E.s are shown to fit up to 74, but do they?

If you have a grinder, sawzall and a welder, you can make your own subframe connectors for about $20 in materials. I made my own for my Duster using 3x3 .120 wall box tubing.

You can make your own with some thin wall 2 X 3 tubing. The trick is to cut the rear floor pans so the tube sits in the floor slightly (rear floor is lower than front) then re-weld the floor to the tube. You wont even notice them from the side of the car and it will stiffen the entire car considerably.

The floor pan is the same, but 73-4 have the iso mount T bar cross member that is in the way.

can be done- did my 73 RR- first thing is to make a cardboard template of the contors of the under side. find a friend with a plasma cutter- use 2 X 3 box tube steel.

after its cut out- grind to fine tune to under side and weld away!!!!

That connector looks very similar to the ones I fabbed for my 72. I started with MP bolt in connectors, and used a plasma, grinder, etc to make them weld in. They look very similar to yours.

But, Id say I spent 20 plus hours in fabbing those dang things. Not to mention I almost cut my finger off with the grinder.

But, in any case, thanks for the pics!! I may just tackle the job again.

I did mine much like 71 deputy's, except mine are located a bit more inboard on the forward end. Chrysler was kind enough to supply a bracket to weld to in this location as part of the iso set-up. You can see part of the bracket in one of 71 deputy's pics.

Maybe I work slow, but it took me 2 12-hour days to get them fabbed and welded on. The metal supplier made me buy the entire 12' piece of tubing, but that's enough to do at least 2 cars.
