273 rebuild - 03/31/10 08:18 PM

Hi, I am rebuilding a 66 dart gt w/ a 273
The block needed two sleeves so it was punched out .30 over as well. I want to use new egge 10-5-1 pistons. I am not going to "drag race" the car but I want some "Balls" I will have 8 3/4 posi w/ either 3:55 or 3:91 gears. 904 tranny w/2500 stall converter. What cam would anyone recommend? I want to stay w/the solid lifters, rockers etc. Thanks, John

What octane & how wild a cam are you after & keeping the oe heads or willing to sub? Might see if Hughes has any 273 piston offerings which MAY be cheaper than Egge. W few cubes you definitely want quench & every selection dead on

honestly, if it needs sleeves, you should have just stuck it under a bench, and go pick up a magnum 318 from a junkyard, maybe rering/rebearing it, put a 4bbl intake on it, get the cam reground by bullet with their HR259/316 lobe, and use hughes 1110 valve springs with 2.2L retainers.

should be an honest 320-330 HP, and you'll most likely have less than $1200 into it including the price of the motor, it'll idle nice, run on 87 octane, and this combo basically pushes my 3900 lb 5th ave to low 14's while returning 17+ MPG in mixed driving.

to get that kind of power out of a 273, you're going to have a much wilder engine, and need to wring it out a lot higher.
