Can I use pushrods with oiling holes ? - 03/25/10 03:57 PM

Guys,

Its been awhile since ive been here and couldnt really find anything in thr archives etc. I am needing to get a set of 9.25" pushrods for a Comp cam in my 440 in order to get the preload setup correctly. I wiped out a lobe on a MP 509 previously using the stock rockers and stock pushrods of 9.31" and such. Motor has about 20K miles on it and runs great, but i dont want to burn up another cam with it being bottomed out in the lifter. Summit sells universal one piece pushrods 5/16 in the 9.25 length but they have the oiling holes and my stock ones do not.
Will this cause issues ? Couldnt the stock steel rockers use a bit more oil in the case ?
I dont know, so im asking you guys :;)

Thank you in advance

It won't cause any issues, and it won't give the rockers any more oil unless you're running an AMC style lifter.

Well thats good News !!! Thanx Zippy

Plus, Ill be saving some valvetrain weight - LOL

So, anyone want to explain why I wont be getting any additional oiling ? Im a little lost on that with the AMC style lifter vs. the Comp ones.

Thanx

cause the amc lifter is like a chevy lifter. little hole on top where the pushrods sits forces oil up and through the p-rod.
whereas the b/rb/la lifters do not have that little hole.

AMC lifters have the oil through the cup and push rod oiling, rather than the solid up or the Mopar lifter. The solid push rod effectively seals the AMC lifter oiling cup for use in an Mopar engine. Or the Mopar solid cup don't allow oiling through the push rod.

The 89 hyd roller cam 318 I just dissasembled has shaft rockers and hollow pushrods. I really don't think enough oil would get past the rocker end of the pushrods to affect oil pressure or "empty" the pan cause too much oil was going to the top end. If its a race only motor where you are concerned with oil windage there might be a small affect on that.
And if it is a race motor I don't think u would be useing a 5/16" pushrod there would be a lot of flex in a 9+" 5/16" pushrod.
