ive got a 68 340 in a 70 cuda and was wondering what the points gap should be on the distributor i was thinking somewhere around 18

book is 17 but 18 is ok

Single or dual points? My 67 "glenns" manual (1 yr B4 340's) shows .016" on almost everything ex /6's

It's been a long time since I set one (actually two on dual points) but .017 is correct. Closer is better than more open since that increases dwell (time for the field to build in the coil). Be sure to use a clean feeler guage, no oil! Also, be sure you are on top of the lobe when you set them. If the distributer is out of the car no problem but if it isnstalled take you time to get it right.

in a pinch a match book will work. I think like the others stated .017 is correct.

Thats what we used when we were kids. A match book works very well. Of course match books may be thinner then they were 30 years ago. lol
