Ebody Steering Column Replace ignition switch Help - 03/17/10 02:23 AM

Hello

I,m Trying to change ignition switch in a 71 challenger.It is calling for special tool C-3044 To pull bearing and housing from shaft.Anyone use this tool ot have any suggestions on getting the bearing and housing off that hold the ignition switch

I used a harbor freight puller. It fits in the crush can and pulls the can right off. It also has the lock plate depressor to get that off. Then push the pin and it is out.

I never have used any speciall tool beside just the steering puller and snap ring plyers

I never needed the tool either.

Once you remove the snap ring and the screws that hold the upper to the middle housing, simply pull on the upper housing. If it doesn't come off then place two screwdrivers (one on each side) between the upper and middle housings. Gently pry the upper housing off.

Works like a charm.

or simply using a rubber mallet at a side and will come off too easy to be pulled by hands. I had never needed to make it, but just in case is needed.
