Engine Torque Strap??? - 03/11/10 05:42 PM

Is an engine torque strap recommended on a mild 360, 4 speed, if it has the later spool mounts? Read here that it is recommended is you have a 4 speed. Didn't specify what type of engine mounts, biscuit or spool. Thanks in advance.

Well it's not going to hurt anything by installing a torq strap. My torq strap is old school, a piece of chain and I got in on there very tight.

This reminds me that I have to tighten the chain on mine this year! I agree that it shouldn't hurt anything if really need or not.

I have an AlterKtion (so, spool mounts) with Poly mounts, a manual trans, and no torque strap. No problem.

Definitely on a 4spd car wirh either style mounts and I use one on my 70 Duster 360/904/3.91 combo with early biscuit mounts.

Low buck: Get a $1.69 double hook turnbuckle from Lowes and add a couple links of chain at the top. Drill a hole in the K-frame for the bottom hook and bolt, lock and flatwasher the chain to the drivers side head. Normally a threaded hole there you can use. Tighten the turnbuckle up to your liking.

High buck: Use a Schumacher torque strap which is a good piece.

I used 2 stock SB tranz to engine struts

cut one end off both struts and welded them together from the bolt hole in the head to the frame on my truck

all mopar and cheap

got that idea from another member here

you can get a spool mount, burn the rubber insert out, weld on 2 big flat washers for end caps and make it a solid mount for one side

like using a solid biscut style on one side

it cut down on vibs from engine to chassis

or run both solid mounts for the max torque limets

I don't see why you would need a torque strap if you have the spool mounts

Re: Engine Torque Strap??? - 03/13/10 12:58 PM

that rubber rots and sags just like the biskets do over time

I had mine let the engine move almost 2" till the header on the fender well stoped it

i went with the end caps and made it solid on one side
