73 Dart Sport rear tires size

What is the widest rear tire I can run on my 73 Dart Sport? I don't want any rubbing issues and I don't want to raise the rear end of the car. I'm going to use either 15X7 or 15X8 Rallys. Pictures of your cars would be helpful. Sorry if this is a repeat question--I'm a bit of a noob.

Some guys go as large as 275/60's but most opt for the 255/60's which give alittle more breathing room.

It may seem like a cop out, but there are plenty of variables involved that make it difficult to give a direct answer. If you have the stock 7.25 or the 8.25 axle, that helps things. If the springs haven't sagged, that helps as well. If you are looking to keep the whole tire within the wheelwell and are trying to maintain a safe clearance of 3/4 inch from the leaf springs and the fenderwell lip, you should be able to fit a 275-50-15 on a 15X8.5 rim with 3.25 inches of backspacing. This assumes that the rear axle is perfectly centered in the car.

I have a 74 that has a 235/45/17 inch tire on it with plenty of clearance. A good fit seems to be 235/60/15's but I'm sure you could go 255/60/15's without issue on 8 inch rim too.
