New trans slipping

New trans slipping - 02/21/10 02:34 AM

Finally got the 67 Satellite up and running. I ordered a new kickdown cable setup because I dont have the linkage for it. I wanted to take it for a shakedown in the meantime so I tied the kickdown arm about 3/4 of the way back. Part throttle as the RPMS come up the trans starts to slip pretty bad. This is at slow speeds going around the block. I had the trans which had unknown history rebuilt at a local rebuilder but it sat probably 2 years between being rebuilt and actually in the car and running. Any easy stuff I can check in regards to the slipping?

You moved the arm the wrong way.

Get the linkage on it before you burn it up. It's really throttle pressure control not kickdown linkage.

Definitely plan on getting the cable hooked up as soon at it arrives. The arm springs towards the front of the car with nothing on it, I would assume more pressure would be applied as the arm moves back. That is the direction the factory linkage would take it as more throttle was applied. Should be enough pressure to keep it from slipping at light throttle I would think.

Moving it back is going to up the throttle pressure & therefore up the line pressure and make it shift later/harder & less likely to slip. If it's 3/4 of the way back & it's slipping going around the block gently there's a serious problem if the fluid level is up & I'm sure you're on top of that. I'd wire it all the way back & retry it but this does not sound good

Rapidrobert has a point. with lever pulled back it should shift later not slip. Are you sure you didn't over pull the lever at tranny? To far back can cause a slip problem.

All the way back won't cause a slip problem it will only cause a high shift point. All the way back is high pressure and makes hard shifts not soft slips.

With the lever 3/4 of the way back you have all the pressure you need for medium throttle. Even with the TP linkage missing a new transmission shouldn't slip at medium throttle, it takes more than a few local miles to cause enough damage to make it slip noticeably.
