Performer intake 383

Performer intake 383 - 02/18/10 03:49 PM

I'm messing with camquest and was wondering if the performer intake for a 383 would be considered standard flow, high flow, or max flow dual plane intake?

Anyone had good luck with this intake? I use it on my sbc and haven't had any problems. I just want to have a dual plane intake that takes some weight off the engine. I removed the stock intake and that sucker is HEAVY! I'm young and thought I was gonna get a hernia.

Found a guy nearby selling one in good shape for 100$.

The performer will do just what you want. It is much lighter than the OEM cast manifold and will give a slight bit more performance.

Does it flow any better than a HP 383 intake manifold?

It does flow slightly better. As far as the computer program it is a std flow intake. The Performer RPM is the ticket and is worth the increased price.

Hot Rod's 383 intake shootout part 1 didn't show any performance difference between the regular performer intake and the perf RPM when used on a 383 with bone stock heads and a decent cam.

I always joked with the edelbrock guys that all they did with the Performer was cast the stock intake in aluminum and then turn it around backwards (look at one and you'll see what I mean!)

even if that's all they did, it saves a good 20lbs off the nose of the car! my cast iron intake is freaggin HEAVY!

but in terms of flow, yea, I'd say the performer is equal to, or a tad better than stock flow.

now performer RPM that's much taller, will flow a lot better than stock.

The Performer is an improvement over the standard
manifold, not only in weight savings but in
performance. It parallels the HP manifold and is
very close to the M1 dual plane. The Performer
RPM is a great manifold which extends the power/
torque range over the Performer, given the proper
cam is installed. The benefit of the RPM is that
you retain "some" low end power while gaining
power midrange and top end. For a stock vehicle
this may be a good manifold, but the single plane 6 times out 10, gets the nod when modified. The
Performer is considered probably a standard flow
while the RPM may be the higher flow type. Check
on this though, I may not be accurate. Good
luck with this.

Actually Bobby, you're close. It IS the DP4B, turned around.
