first time in real down draft booth any hints? - 02/12/10 02:10 AM

Ive painted for 20 years but never in a real heated downdraft booth. Im excited. painting a 67 belevedere sat in a heated downdraft professional booth. car is ready. 2008 dodge pearl red. lots of work but I think it will be real nice. will the paint dry faster between coats because the extra airflow? I plan on using med reducer. should be ok. Im used to waiting between coats because my airflow isnt or hasent been real good in my garage paint jobs. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v313/reflections7/100_0082.jpg

use reducer based on room temp. Our booths are set at 85 degrees during painting. We use slow reducers. Flash time between coats for color is about 5 mins. Clear is about 10 to 15 mins. Car is dust free in 45 mins. Pick the temp reducer based on what the room temp will be during spraying.

A Few things , were old shoes because they will be full of overspray when you are done spraying your car , and I assume you are going to wear a "Spray Suit" that helps a bunch with dirt , be aware where the 'Air Hose" is at all times , do not step on the hose while it is on the exhaust grate as you will loose Air Pressure at the Gun for a split second and paint will dribble on your car. I assume you are shooting "Solventborne" paint?

Been painting for 20 years just never in a booth like this. Best i ever used was old cross draft booth. real old. This is new high tech down draft heated booth. Very well lit which will be nice. I wear all my ppp personal protection equipment. mask, suit, hood, ect. Just dont think I will be used to how fast it flashes.
