Avenger key removal - 01/30/10 08:20 PM
Have a 96 Avenger I use for a back up car... don't drive much,,, can't get the key out of the switch most of the time,,, if I drive more regularaly,, sometimes if I fiddle with the shifter, it will come out,,, does it have something like a neutral switch in the console , or linkage somewhere,, most of the time it wont come out,, stuck in the ACC position...???

there is a cable that goes from the shifter to the steering column that is the problem. it is not extending the cable all the way. i had that problem on my old chebby, i just disconnected it from the column, worked fine after that.

partfiller69, thanks,, that must be a long cable,, where would be the best place to discconect it ,,, the floor console or steering column,, not sure where to do it at the steering column,, there is not a lot of room in this mitsubishi built car..
