Electric fans?

Electric fans? - 01/30/10 05:42 AM

Looking for a good reasonably priced elec. fan for my 71 360 dart, if i'm not mistaken, the radiator is 22" factory. Also, are you running them with stock amp alts? I ran a Hayden along time ago, that was a POS.

Could i possibly find one or twins off a factory car?

Spring for a good one with that 22" radiator, i've got a 16" perma cool on a 3 core 22" rad cooling a warmed over 318 and it still run's about 195 with with a 180 stat. I've heard Spal fans are the way to go but i'm sure there are other setups that will work. Oh it runs just fine with my stock alt. wired to the starter relay with an inline fuse and adj thermostat.

Ford Taurus fans from a V6 is good...but you need a decent alternator.

I bought this one at our local speed shop. My car only gets up to 200 sitting in traffic in hot weather so I wired this up on a relay to a toggle switch. I only turn it on when I need it and it works great. It will take it from 200 back to 180 in about 2 minutes. Ron

I've heard mid to late 90's Thunderbird/Cougars have a nice fitting fan.

Never tried the install on an older car but I did have a 4.6L Tbird and that fan would pull down the temp in any condition. Including Texas traffic with the ac on.

Don't need no electric fan. Ma had it figured out.

Re: Electric fans? - 01/31/10 05:01 AM

I used a late 90's 4.6 T-Bird fan before (On my Torana, way back when) even on the low speed (it had 2) it could sit in traffic in the middle of the summer all day long and never run warm

It was somewhat deep though, so not sure how fitment would go on different vehicles ?

I just went with a pair of high output Spal fans on it's new engine swap setup now though, see how they go. (no room for another Tbird one...too deep)

Here is an old pic when I was mocking it up...perfect fit on a 28" Summit radiator. (the fan blades were sharp hence I took it off while working with it )
